Chennai: A sanitary worker engaged at the Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital has been arrested allegedly for sexually abusing a woman patient. The police solved the case, five days after it was reported, using CCTV visuals.
The 49-year-old woman is a rag picker and resident of Manali. She visited the hospital on June 27 for treatment for her kidney problem. She underwent a surgery on June 30 and was shifted to ward 203 in tower-2 for recuperation.
At the hospital, the woman was accompanied only by her 13-year-old daughter. On June 30, when the woman was alone in her ward, Palani, a conservancy worker engaged there, sexually abused her.
The woman said it happened when she was in a drugged state due to the medicines administered and could not react. Based on her complaint, the GH police registered a case and zeroed in on Palani, who was employed as a conservancy worker. He was remanded in judicial custody on Monday.
