In this episode, Lara chats with fellow life coach Dr. Michelle Ofreneo about various principles that can help your physician family. Dr. Ofreneo also shares their love story, how she came to decide to become a life coach, and more.
“I think it’s just you know this instruction book of these beliefs that we’ve had just from the past you’re conditioned to think. That ya know, this is what a family is supposed to look like. This is what my spouse is supposed to do. Or I think when we see that that’s optional and we let go of that, we then allow our spouse to be who they’re going to be and truly accept and love them for who they already are rather than, almost like, I heard another coach say this, like almost like cheat on them with this idealized version of who they are.” –Dr. Michelle Ofreneo, MD

Dr. Michelle Ofreneo, MD is a coach certified at The Life Coach School, a semi-retired Physician Anesthesiologist, Mom, Wife to a full-time physician, and a recovering perfectionistic procrastinator, self-doubter, & people-pleaser, and a Thriver emerged from the ashes of her own personal burnout.
Years ago, she felt this constant state of Dis-ease and “not-enoughness”. Her life looked great on paper. But inside didn’t feel so great for her.
“I was putting myself on the back-burner trying to pour from an empty cup. And I felt I was stuck in this rat race of life. It was not sustainable. I tried to DIY my own personal development. I read self-help books, listened to podcasts, tried yoga, meditation, and biofeedback, studied philosophy, theology, positive psychology, and neuroscience. But it wasn’t until I personally experienced coaching that I got the guidance and traction I needed to overcome my old thought patterns and reactive habits, so that I could finally create a life that felt good and alive and more me than ever before.”
Michelle currently runs her own private life coaching practice. She helps her clients poke holes through the muck and mud hut of their self-limiting beliefs. She helps them re-think, re-write and edit the current story and trajectory of their lives. Many of her clients come to her wanting help with reconnecting with their spouse or their kids… and most of all, with themselves. Many come to her wanting to return to work, perform better at work, or start something they’ve been dreaming about…
“The best news is that our brains are neuroplastic. It is absolutely possible for all of us to become the person we dream to be and have the relationships we imagine. It is never too late, and it is possible to create a life you love… even the hard parts. Together, we create a process to do just that.”
