A 34-year-old mental healthcare patient at the Thabamoopo Psychiatric Hospital died after allegedly trying to escape from a ward early on Sunday.

Limpopo health department spokesperson Neil Shikwambana claimed the patient removed part of a window frame from the facility in Lebowakgomo.

Shikwambana said the outside burglar-proof window trapped the patient.
